Email marketing is, in my opinion, one of the most effective methods of promotion ever.
In this article we will introduce it in more detail. We’ll look at the tools you can run it through and we’ll also look at specific tips you can use in this area, whether you’re a freelancer, small business, or eshop.
What is email marketing?
It’s using people’s emails (who voluntarily gave you their address) to establish a relationship, send out useful content, and promote products.
Probably the most common form of email marketing is writing and sending a newsletter.
For e-shops, email marketing is mainly used to send out various promotional offers, coupons and discounts.
Personally, I have (great) experience with email marketing primarily as a form of content marketing (newsletter, email sequences…), so this article will focus on that use.
The possibilities that email marketing offers to e-shops will be mentioned, however, due to my little experience, I won’t go into them too much.
How do you collect people’s emails?
In order to do email marketing, you first need the emails of the people you can email.
There are a number of ways to get these emails from people.
I strongly recommend avoiding various email list buying, spamming and similar practices. They can backfire badly over time and are not needed anyway.
Email marketing works great, even if you play by the rules.
So where do you collect emails?
1. Create a place where people can entrust you with email
This most often takes the form of adding a signup form to the site. However, I certainly wouldn’t stop there. If you use social networks, you can also collect email subscribers at:
- Facebook,
- Twitter,
- Pinterest…
Whether email marketing is a priority for you, or rather an interesting experiment, I recommend creating a few places where people can sign up for your email newsletter.
2. Creating a lead magnet
Create something that people will get for subscribing to your newsletter.
- List of resources,
- template,
- exclusive content (for example, an interview)
- various coupons, discounts, promotions
When you give people a reason to trust you with their email, you logically increase the chances that people will actually do it.
And you’ll see that even if the reason isn’t compelling by any means, and you really do create a lead magnet at speed, you’ll see a huge difference from if you hadn’t created a lead magnet.
3. Adding the option to subscribe to email newsletters to the activities people do on your site
You make a purchase on the e-shop and before you submit your order, you have the option to check the option to subscribe to the newsletter after you complete your order.
This is the first, but far from the only option.
Be creative:
- create tests, emailing the results to the individual after sending them to the individual,
- make a login section on your site,
- write an interesting section in the article and put that behind the “email” paywall
The possibilities are endless.
How to use emails?
You can plan classic marketing campaigns and send out promotional materials.
But I find it best
- write a newsletter,
- send educational sequences.
The best way to achieve both is to use an email tool, and personally I find MailerLite the best.
Word in conclusion
Email marketing is a traditional method, but it is still waiting for its non-traditional uses.
