Imagine that someone searches for a topic and finds your site on the first page of Google. However, when they click through to your site, their eyes are drawn to a bland web page that says “Service Unavailable.”
This will not please Google or the visitor, and neither are likely to give you a second chance. What does the 503 code actually mean?
Features starting with 5xx are server errors. This means that visitors and robots can’t get to your site at all, or can’t see anything on it.
Error 503 is a “temporarily unavailable” error and means that the server is working properly, but cannot execute the request at the time.
How do I fix the error?
If you get a 503 Service Unavailable error on your website, there is unfortunately no easy solution.
You need to investigate what is actually causing the problem. The error will show you that something happened, but you have to figure out what happened on your own.
I would therefore recommend: contact your hosting and contact your site administrator, who will most likely be able to help you.
If you want to start repairing your site on your own, you can follow the Hubspot instructions and do the following:
- Restart the server.
- Check your web server for maintenance.
- Correct any firewall misconfigurations.
- Pass server-side logs.
- Scan your website code for errors.
But if you don’t think of these tasks, the best thing to do is to contact your webmaster and hosting provider right now.
