Conan the Barbarian
Before the agency Something Familiar, with whom I collaborated on the project, stood a great challenge, how to tackle such a big project?
The team at Something Familiar thus immersed themselves for several months in research. Market, old website, fans’ opinions… and from this research gradually began to emerge the first links and outlines of a potential new online home for Barbarian Conan.
After the research, Something Familiar created a comprehensive set of wireframes, which were then dressed in final graphics.
Once the main work was done and the website could begin to develop, I came onto the scene. Together with other developers from Something Familiar, we started building the website using Bricks Builder. I personally worked exclusively on the static parts of the website, while the Something Familiar team fully covered all animations, effects, and interactive elements such as the story map.
During a busy spell at Something Familiar, Vojtěch joined our team to support us on our digital projects through a contact with an existing developer. He was with us for about 3 months in total working across custom Wordpress and HTML email builds.
Working with Vojtěch was great – he is extremely personable, conscious, reliable, highly knowledgeable and has excellent communication skills!
We look forward to working with Vojtěch again in the near future.

It was a journey that was worth it
The team of the Bristol-based agency Something Familiar spent months in preparation, during which they: explored the market; interviewed fans of Barbarian Conan; analyzed data from the old website; set goals for the new website; prepared detailed wireframes, which were then adorned with beautiful graphics.
Thanks to the excellent preparation of materials, it was a joy to join the project and start the development using Bricks Builder and the Automatic CSS framework. Moreover, thanks to great communication with the Something Familiar team, the work was very pleasant, and despite the usual challenges and obstacles, we made great strides forward.
Towards the end of the project, the oars were again mainly in the hands of the Something Familiar team, who completed all the animations, interactive map (and other interactive elements), created a story-based chatbot, and the whole website could be launched.
Thanks to the capabilities of Bricks Builder and the great talent of the Something Familiar team, a visually unique website was created, along with a series of animations and dynamic elements, making browsing the website almost a cinematic experience.
The new Barbarian Conan website is not just a place where you can learn everything important about this hero. Thanks to the interactive map and game, you can literally spend time with him!
Since the Something Familiar team made sure to strictly adhere to best practices throughout the creation process, the resulting website, despite its complexity, is easy to operate, with intuitive administration and ready for further scaling.
Thanks to the chosen technological solution in partnership: WordPress, Automatic CSS, and Bricks Builder, it is a sustainable solution that any other developer can come to, easily orient themselves in, and make any changes. No vendor lock.
Even though I have been involved in several large projects in the past, none were as big as the website for Barbarian Conan. Thanks to the excellent team at Something Familiar, I will remember this experience with gratitude and draw from it. If I hadn’t experienced it firsthand, I might not believe how effectively such a large project can be managed. I am also pleased that I convinced that Bricks Builder is indeed capable of handling a ‘global solution’.
