Getting backlinks is hard work. But it’s a lot less work than people often think. There are a number of comprehensive articles on how to build them, and they are great.
I’m going to look at 3 tips that are ripe apples hanging around in the linkbuilding world. In other words, they don’t take much time and the time they do take is richly worthwhile.
If you are serious about linkbuilding, however, there is probably no substitute for creating quality and useful content. Not even from this list :).
1. Make sure you link to your site from all the places where you have a profile
Social networking will be the place to focus on first. If you have a nice and up-to-date profile somewhere, make sure you have a link to your website there as well.
This is not a very good link, but it certainly won’t hurt you and I believe it will help you easily.
Once you’re done, it’s time to think… Where else outside of social networks do you have profiles that can be managed?
Event management and support
You may have helped out with a charity event, sponsored a local club, or are just a member of a volunteer organization.
Wherever your medallion hangs, ask the administrator to add a back link to it. It shouldn’t be a problem.
If you don’t have any such posts, feel free to make a plan to get them in the future.
University and other profiles
Universities and other educational institutions often have extremely strong and authoritative domains.
If you wanted to pay for links from such a domain, you’d probably be “slapping yourself in the pocket”.
However, for example, Masaryk University also allows its alumni to have a profile on their site where you can post more or less whatever you want.
So if you are a graduate of a university, see if it has the same catalog.
Of course, encourage your colleagues to do similar research :).
2. Get links where they want to give them to you
Section of mentions on the web
An ideal example would be to create articles for the “written about us” section, as Links writes about.
- Find an industry-appropriate site with a “write about us” section
- Write an article and alert the site, or make arrangements before you get started
Reviews and references
If you already have a bit of a name in the industry or if your company is interesting, you can write a review or just a reference that includes a backlink.
You can review people, services, products. Any effort you make towards getting a backlink will often pay off.
The people you do this work for will be happy to post it on their site afterwards, as it will only add to their authority and credibility.
Strategic Partnerships
Try to arrange strategic partnerships. You link to your partner’s site and the partner links to yours.
It is best to work with people who are not direct competitors, but are close in industry.
Copywriter – developer, SEO person, graphic designer…
Flower Arranger – photographer, restaurant, wedding planner…
VR reality vendor – VR reality repairman, VR developers, VR testers…
That’s the idea.
3. Branch catalogues
In general, it is better to avoid catalogs. However, there are exceptions.
If you’re a freelancer, the Freelancer portal is an exception. And if you do anything else, I believe that with a little work you can find an exception for your industry.
There are, however, general exceptions that I would recommend for almost everyone.
Google my business and Firmy.cz. Logically, these shouldn’t be very strong backlinks, but after I turned on a trial ad on Firmy.cz (for a few crowns), my domain authority doubled (from 6 to 12).
I haven’t verified this, but I’m guessing the backlink from Seznam played a role.
Try it and see.
